Energy Performance Certificates (EPC's) will let you know the overall energy efficiency of your home. It runs on a scale from A being super energy efficient to G which is the lowest energy rating. If you live in Bournemouth or surrounding areas the EPC will let potential buyers or tenants know how costly it will be to heat and light the home. It will also show them what the carbon emissions are likely to be. It will show you a list of measures to improve the energy efficiency of your home.

After your property has been assessed, the EPC will be sent by email to either your agent, solicitor (as instructed) or directly to your own email. It will then be valid for 10 years unless you make energy improvements to your property whereupon you will need to have it updated.
Epc's are now required by law if you are thinking of selling or renting your home. You will need to instruct an approved Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) to produce the EPC. Once the DEA has visited your home to gather the information required, your EPC will normally be available within 48 hours. The EPC if requested will be either posted, emailed or you can download it yourself from the EPC register.
For home owners it is beneficial to have an EPC done. Once it is done it will be valid for 10 years and will show recommendations for you to improve the energy efficiency of your home. You will also have an EPC in place should you ever decide to sell or rent your property. The only time the EPC needs to be updated would be if you improve the energy efficiency of your home showing the improvements.
